For BEAM Interactive in Boston, Massachusetts:
Client: Ideas in Action
HUBweek Adventures 2015
- Shot with Canon 5D Mark III
- Edited in Adobe Premiere CC
This promotional video made as part of Boston’s HUBweek showcases many of the on-location shoots I went to with BEAM’s senior multimedia producer. This video includes footage taken from adventures at Fenway Park, Harvard University and Massachusetts General Hospital.
For Vox Magazine in Columbia, Missouri:
Bowfishing
- Shot with Sony Handycam HDR-160
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
I also wrote a blog post and magazine article on bowfishing. I pitched this idea after seeing what appeared to be perfectly reasonable and sane people shooting arrows into a river while I was hiking. A prompt response from an inquiry I sent to a Missouri bowfishing website and forum led me to Guy Lanphere, the subject of the video and an eagle-eyed bowfishing enthusiast.
Tuna Does Vegas
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
I produced this video to accompany another Vox reporter’s article. I picked up this story from a pitch meeting and spent most of the day with the actors in Arrow Rock, Mo. which is about 45 minutes north-west of Columbia.
VOX Covers: Roots N Blues N BBQ
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
I co-shot this footage with another Vox reporter and the multimedia editor, Karen Rodriguez. I learned a lot from her about both shooting and editing. She was an efficient one-person multimedia team who drastically shortened my idea of what a feasible turn around time for a quality media product was.
Roots N Blues N BBQ: Half marathon and 10K
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
Another Roots N Blues video I did as part of the magazine’s festival coverage.
Behind the Scenes: Lodgestock Festival
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
Another team effort from a different music festival, this time in Jefferson City, Missouri. This one was in it’s second year and sparsely attended on the day we were there to film. The access to the artists that being 50% of the audience gave us more than compensated for the lack crowd reaction we were able to get.
Vox Sessions: Dave & Dyno with the Roadkill Orchestra
“How’s the Weather?”
“Tilt-a-whirl”
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR) (x2)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
Another advantage of the access we had to the artists at the music festival I mentioned in the above clip was pitching to bands the “Vox Session” concept: you come into our office and we make you some music videos. I know this practice is fairly common, but it was still exciting to get a phone call from Dave out of the blue about a month later saying the band would be in town in two days if we wanted to record them playing some songs.
Volunteering at Cedar Creek
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
I created this photo slideshow to accompany this article by another Vox writer. Cedar Creek is an equestrian facility in Columbia, Mo. that provides horses as a tool for physical therapy.
For KBIA 91.3 FM in Columbia, Missouri:
Underground water creates caves, sinkholes
- Shot with Nikon D7000 (DSLR)
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
I shot this video inside Connor’s Cave at Rock Bridge Memorial State Park as part of a KBIA series on sinkholes. The challenge in this project was lighting in a pitch-black environment. I had a headlight and a couple of flashlights but I underestimated the amount of light sources I’d need. Next time I’m filming in a cave though, it will look like daylight I swear.
Other content:
Graphics Sample One
- Edited in Adobe After Effects
The demo used stock footage to show virtual camera movement in a 3D environment. Also I can make a lens flare.
2531 – A Documentary
- Edited in Final Cut Pro X
I made this documentary as a part of a group project over four weeks in the summer 2012. Three years later, there is a lot I’d do differently both shooting and editing. However, I’m still proud of the theme and some of the ideas we attempted to execute.
